Submitting early so that I can still be submitting on valentine's day in most places ^_^

Valentine's day is a bit different in Japan. Most of you probably know that girls are the ones to give the chocolate. What you may not know is allllll the different kinds of chocolate to give. You can give Tomochoco which is for your friends (girl or boy), Girichoco which is for your boss or your teacher (man or woman), and Honmeichoco, which is for the person you like (usually boy, since Japan isn't all that open about gay relationships, but I'm sure there are some girls who get them somewhere). I got girichoco from 3 students. WOO! It's also traditional to make your OWN chocolate thing, so most of the gifts are handmade ^_^ (the honmeichoco is much more meaningful if it's hand made) ^)^

The day where the boys respond is White Day. I haven't done much research into white day, but it seems like those guys who get honmeichoco or girichoco have to respond (with honmeichoco you only respond if you like the girl) with cookies, jewelry, white chocolate, white lingerie, or marshmallows. They also say that it should be "sanbai gaeshi" literally "3 times the return', so the gift should be worth 3 times what the girl gave. HA, take that, boys!

Hope you learned something! And had a good rest of your Valentine's Days! Also, enjoy the Valentine's sales day tomorrow, way jealous that I'm missing all that cheap candy!

Oh yeah, and I DID get a giant chocolate bar for my husband. It was awesome. :P and that size isn't an exaggeration, it IS about that big.

Enjoy! ^_^

is there a difference in the flavor or dark/white of the chocolate for each kind, or is it labeled or something? I know a bit about the tradition, and that there are 3 different kinds, but not what shows which type it is
